I am taking a creative class from Andrea Schroeder and she talks about “meeting yourself where you are”.
What that means is to take note of what’s going on in your life, including your emotions, and then focusing on that. Confused? Me too.
We all have goals and dreams; that’s what this class is about.
But sometimes life gets in the way.
It’s hard to pursue your dreams when you barely have enough time to get through your day. I started this year wanting to write a book, but also knowing we were going to sell our house and move. So for now, I need to concentrate on the house; the book will wait.
This isn’t to say that I won’t write a book; just that the here and now needs to be dealt with first.
Always keep your dreams in mind and work on them when you can.
But at the same time, you need to honor where you are now. Are there things that need tending to before you can start your dream work? Are there emotions that you need to work through first?
It’s OK to be where you are, no matter where that is.
If you’re in a bad place, mentally or physically, then that’s your focus; all else can wait.
Andrea compares it to a journey. You have to know where you are in order to get to where you’re going. The world is a different place than it was a few years ago; maybe you are too.
Take it one day at a time.
