How to Start Journaling

So many people see the benefits of journaling but are afraid to begin.

A lot of women have had bad experiences in the past with privacy and their journals. Some are intimidated by the blank page. And others try for a few days then give up.

But here’s the thing about journaling: there are no rules.

You can write whatever you want whenever you want.

Skipped a few days?

That’s cool. Maybe you had some good days and didn’t need to journal.

No rules.

Worried about someone reading it?

Rip it out and shred it. Or burn it.

That’s a popular thing to do during certain phases of the moon.

If you’re into art, you could paint or collage over it.

Need some help getting past that first page?

Look for journaling prompts online. You’ll find something that works for you.

Here are some more tips to help you get started:

  • Find a notebook and pen that you like. Make sure the size is comfortable and that you like the paper. Too smooth and the pen will smudge, which is annoying.
  • Decide how you want to use this journal. Is it for getting thoughts and emotions out or finding out more about yourself? Maybe it’s for gratitude or morning pages. Remember — you can always change your mind.
  • Some people combine their daily plans with journaling all in one book. That might be an easy way for you to try this.
  • Start with one sentence a day.

Journaling has so many benefits, but only if you take the pressure off of yourself and enjoy it.

Remember — no rules.
