It’s Hard to Be Your Real Self When You Feel Like Everyone Is Judging You

Do you feel like everyone is judging you, or is that me?

I’ve done a lot of studying and working with shadow work, and I know that I am a judgemental person. I try not to be, but I am far too often. And maybe that’s why I feel as though others are judging me.

Am I trying to judge them before they judge me?

It turns out that the fear of being judged is part of social anxiety.

When you realize that it’s your anxiety causing you to feel that way, it makes it easier to put things in perspective. It’s not so much that others are judging you, but your brain is making you feel that way. Other people probably don’t even notice whatever perceived fault you think you have.

Sometimes you have to accept yourself for who you are.

Learning to do that can be one of the most freeing things you can do.

Imagine not stressing over your looks or weight anymore or your funny lopsided grin. Embrace it, own it, quit trying to hide it. Bring it out into the open and dare anyone to make fun.

What you’ll get are respect and admiration.

Who could judge someone with that kind of confidence?

In the meantime, listen to what you’re saying to yourself. You would never treat a friend that way. Learn to be gentle with yourself; we’re all works in progress.

Try complimenting someone that you think is judging you, and then give yourself credit for being proactive and positive.
